Ancient Roman ArchitectureThere were many buildings and monuments that the Romans built, but there is one that still stands and catches people’s attention from around the world, the Colosseum. The Colosseum was built by different people at different times, like Vespasian, Titus, and Domitian, and it was built in 72 CE, first started by Vespasian. This grand monument was used for public entertainment. For example, there were gladiator fights, wild animal hunts and fights, and public executions from 80 CE to 404 CE. Even though the inside happenings were spectacular, the outside was just as beautiful. There were three floors with Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian columns holding it up. Also, this special amphitheater was made out of concrete as a base material, that was relatively new to the Romans. Additionally, there was a marble terrace that was protected by a wall, and in between, the rich people and the emperor to sit down and watch. The entertainment was enjoyable almost all the time, but there were bloody and cruel acts too,. This ancient monument had changed Roman history for historians, and left a big mark as one of the magnificent Ancient Roman Architectural achievements. I found most of the facts at www.ancient.eu, and there many accurate and believable facts, that were written by historians. Also, there were many more buildings and monuments that helped the Roman Empire, but unfortunately, I could only write about one. Please, don't think that this is the only architectural achievement of Ancient Rome.
