The Public Health Program in Rome kept people healthy and strong and they believed in a healthy mind and a healthy body, so the government decided to build the aqueducts for people’s personal hygiene. 2000 years ago, aqueducts were built to bring the fresh water to Rome, with the water, the Romans could take baths, drink fresh water through their fountains. Peter Aicher, the author of “Guide to the Aqueducts of Ancient Rome”, he said, “When Rome besieged by the Barbarian invasions, one of the first thing they did was to cut the aqueducts into the city!” This shows how aqueducts important to them. When they were in danger, the first thing to protect was not themselves, it was the aqueducts. The aqueducts made them have fresh water to drink, and clean water to take bath ( the ancient Romans believed the dirty water would make them got illness ). This proves that the ancient Roman saw personal health was a main thing in their life. The government built 9 aqueducts and brought 222 million ‘of fresh water to Rome.
